A group of Japanese researchers have mixed advanced AI with machine learning to decipher the emotional state of chickens, including hunger, fear, anger, contentment, excitement, and distress. To ensure accuracy, they worked with veterinarians and veterinary surgeons to confirm their results matched what the experts know about the emotional states of chickens.

This is a research preprint that hasn’t been reviewed by a scientific journal. And no mention if they asked their 80 chickens why they crossed the road.
