Hour of Code Resources

Open Knowledge Foundation on Flickr

Started in 2013 by Code.org, the Hour of Code is an annual event held in December during Computer Science Week. Schools, teachers, and kids are encouraged to try programming for an hour. Code.org provides lots of information about how to set up, promote, and run these events.

EU Code Week runs a grass-roots all-volunteer events in October with the same goals, to give kids, young adults, and others a chance to try programming and learn about computer science and digital literacy.

Below are a number of activities that can be the focus of an Hour of Code event. However, these activities also can be done year round by parents, librarians, teachers, and kids whether together or on their own. The links below are for many activities to try for an hour, or more.
