Since August 2013, I’ve published kid-oriented STEM content online and in print. My focus has been on surfacing helpful resources for readers. This includes books, apps, robots, coding sites, summer tech camps, and more.
With the current version of this website, I want to resurrect something I loved in the 1990s. Byte and PC Computing magazines had dozens of thin paper classified ads at the back. It was a fun way to find and source tech.
However, my version of classified ads is different. They’re online, for one. But they’re also free to start. Reader interest outweighs my interest in finding financial support for my magazine. Plus it lets me surface useful tech and help my readers regardless of whether an advertiser can pay.
That said, there’s two tiers of STEM Classified ads.
- Free ads display side by side in a single row. They have the product or service name and a bare URL link.
- Paid ads are double-wide. They can have a basic colored background. Plus an image and/or copy to fill the space. And a visual call out for being a sponsor. This treatment also applies to the email newsletters. They contain one random paid ad stacked above a row of two side by side ads.
A paid STEM Classified ad helps promote digital literacy to a big audience. This site receives 40,000+ unique visitors a month. Each email newsletter has open rates ranging from 36-46%. Click through rates are 12-19% per email. My readers are engaged and interested in STEM and STEM resources.
If you’re interested in a paid ad, pricing is quarterly, semi-annual, and annual.
- Quarterly is $180 ($60 a month on average).
- Semi-annual is $300 ($50 a month on average).
- Annual is $480 ($40 a month on average).
There’s far more expensive advertising options. But this is an opportunity to be in front of parents, teachers, librarians, and others who show up to learn about STEM. And, more important, show up to help kids learn about and get excited about STEM.
