Go Rogue with Minecraft Modpack

Show off your Minecraft fighting skills with these RAD mods

Minecraft is great, but (yawn) sometimes it’s lacking a little in action. If you love to plunder dungeons, grab loot, and level up your character (and who doesn’t), Minecraft has all of that. But, did you know there are mods that can ramp that experience up to 11 and base the entire game on your combat Prowess?

Totally RAD

The modpack Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons—otherwise known as R.A.D–takes inspiration from the roguelike videogame genre, which accentuates dungeon-delving and equipment hoarding as you face tough challenges and risk it all for glory.

R.A.D gives you plenty of places to explore and contains some of the most popular dimensions such as the Aether and the Betweenlands. But it also adds some lesser-known ones. For example, in the Hunting Dimension, it’s permanently nighttime, meaning you’ll face a neverending swarm of monsters to test your skills against.

Knock, Knock

The modpack also uses Dimensional Doors, a mod that adds doors that can tear through reality itself. You can use these doors to find new planes, explore mazes, and meet perilous traps, all with the ever-present danger of falling into the Limbo realm.

If you’d rather keep your feet in your home dimension, R.A.D. still has a lot to offer. You can choose a beginner class much like a real roguelike, which will give you the gear needed to get started.

Once you’re ready, you can explore the world and complete quests that will help guide you to victory. You can use the XP you gather to level up your character, but watch out; as you level up, so do the monsters around you to ensure there’s always a challenge.

The Big Good Wolf

And speaking of monsters, the modpack also includes some new beasties for you to fight. The Ice and Fire Dragons modpack will ensure you’ve always got one eye on the skies, and Mowzie’s Mobs adds a variety of creatures from walking suits of armor to tribesmen.

You won’t have to face this alone, however. The modpack includes some tweaks to wolf training, meaning they’ll be more of a party member than a pet. And the Inventory Pets add-on allows you to keep all kinds of animals in your backpack that give you buffs and items over time. We’re just scratching the surface here, so if this interests you, be sure to hop into Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons and get exploring.
