1.14.2 👽 Sunday Links… Finding Aliens, New Ways to Count, AI Writing Tools, Listening in on Whales

My favorite theory about the lack of aliens is called the Dark Forest. In a dangerous unknown universe there’s likely something bigger than you that’s hungry. So the best thing to do? Be silent. Also, given the vast time scales of the universe, maybe aliens disappeared long ago. Or they’ll show up after humans are gone. Scientists still look for aliens, apparently in at least 32 strange places. This email also has 50 writing tools that include AI which might interest you. Plus links to articles about how your brain thinks, new ways to count, and listening to blue whales talk to each other. (And happy Bastille Day to my French readers!)
